My husband LOVES bow ties, seriously LOVES them - any excuse to dress up, and he is wearing one! When we found out we were having a boy, I don't know if Mike was more excited to see baby Charlie one day play soccer or wear a bow tie... it's close. Please note Charlie Bear wearing a very wee bow tie for Easter in the picture at the end... proud daddy moment right there!
Here is Mike in Bow Tie Heaven:
So when thinking about what fun Father's Day DIY craft and gift my four year old daughter Gigi could make for him, I turned to... bow tie pasta, duh!
Here is what we did:
I purchased a box of Farfalle for .99 cents at my grocery store. I gave Gigi paints and a paintbrush, and she went to town. Okay, I might have wiggled my way in a little and added the small details on the bow ties, I couldn't help myself ;)
We wanted some glittery ones too. Well, the truth is: Gigi wants glitter on everything. And somehow Charlie got some on his head, and it's still there. Why is glitter so sticky?!!
Glue and Glitter to your hearts content.
Then take your bow tie masterpieces, and let's get to the real work.
Once you have your masterpiece bow ties glittery and handsome and perfect (ha), you have SO many options for projects! I've laid out five of our favorite projects with our bow tie pasta.
Project #1 - Bow Tie Garland
Tie and embellish until you are satisfied with your decor - Gigi was very happy with this glittery decoration.
Project #2 - Bow Tie Cards
Glue and stamp... sign, seal, deliver ;)
Project #3 - Bow Tie Keepsake Quote Frame
Glue, design and write out your favorite quote or message for dad. I chose, "Dad, you keep us tie-d together."
Project #4 - Bow Tie Picture Frame
Glue and frame a cute picture for dad.
How adorable are these finished products?! Gigi and I are very happy with the end result and know Mike is going L.O.V.E his Bow Tie inspired Father's Day gifts!
Oh! I forgot to add the last way you could use your bow tie pasta -- eat it! Why not keep the theme going and make bow tie pasta for dinner?? I mean seriously, why stop there? Amanda at Kids and Cabernet has a great recipe (and a fantastic wine pairing to boot!).
