Mama's Lookbook Vol. 1 {Review}

I've always loved fashion.  I find it such a fun and creative way to express myself.

But then I let myself go.  For 4 years, I was pregnant and/or breastfeeding.  And broke.  None of this lending well to my love of fashion.  So I used what I had, even if I didn't love it.  This was a time of practicality. and guilt.  I could barely buy something in the clearance section of Target without buyer's remorse.  It was awful and stole all the joy of fashion from my life.

Fast forward to January of 2013, just a year ago to where we are today.  I had just given birth to my 3rd baby and I was ready to turn a corner.  I remember telling my husband, "I'm tired of wearing things that aren't me just because I have them."

So I simplified.  I sold what was worth something and gave the rest to charity.  Every month I saved what I could to buy staple pieces to my wardrobe that I had been dying to have.  Slowly and slowly I built a wardrobe I love on at a steal.  Doesn't hurt that I have always been a great bargain shopper.  Practicality hasn't left, but thankfully guilt has.

And with that I welcome you to my Lookbook Series.

I love all things feminine, soft, warm.  I will be the first to admit I have been uncomfortable for fashion sakes before, 9 times out of 10 I'm reaching for that comfy, yet cute choice in my closet.  Especailly on my "mom days."  I work outside of the home, so those days I get to be a bit more fancy and polished.  But "mom days" those are defiantly the days for the comfy outfit.

Yala designs specializes in the comfy & cute arena.  So many of their pieces are made of organic cotton, which is one of the softest, lightest fabrics I have ever worn.  You put something from Yala designs on, and you know your wearing something special.  I received the Kenzie shirt dress from Yala and loved the special, feminine touches from the minute I laid eyes on it.

I ordered mine in black, but it was a tough choice between that and the awesome prints.  It comes with a belt, perfect for defying your waist, and giving a great silhouette.  In the pictures below, I paired mine with a fun leopard print belt to add a pop of whimsy and contrast.

Speaking of pairing, it works perfect with leggings or jeans and has just the right length to fully cover your tush should you chose the leggings route.

And so speaking of leggings... K. Bell socks makes these trendy velvet leggings in black and leopard print.  I know that leopard print might be pushing it a bit far for us moms, but wether your hip and trendy or safe and casual, these leggings can work in your wardrobe.  I cannot tell you how comfortable they are.  The perfect amount of stretch, without becoming too baggy.  And the velvet makes for the softest touch.  Oh and those of you freezing your booties off in the "polar vortex" these puppies have your name written all over them!  They are warm, warm, warm!!
